Macquarie University – The Experience

In early December, the students showcased their projects to their teachers and other students at Girraween Public School before participating in the National Championships of the FIRST® LEGO® League at Macquarie University on 10 December.

Macquarie University was definitely an experience for all of us especially for the kids. The Expo commenced with an opening ceremony full of participants from around the country. Denmark’s ambassador’s was the chief guest and encouraged the participants.

Following the opening ceremony, students setup their projects and posters ready to welcome students from other schools, parents and judges. Judges including the Ambassador came around to inspect our projects and asked questions to the teams. Students demonstrated and answered the questions confidently.

Finally, it was time for all the hard work to be paid off. It was time for the award ceremony. Among the teams, students received the awards for Public Speaking, the Bee-search (research) Award, Sustainability Award, the Hive Award, the Live Well Award and the Bee Peaceful Award.

Parents and students were over the moon for being recognised for their hard work over the last few weeks. We received a lot of feedback and compliments from the parents that their children have learned a lot from the program and would like us to create a program to continue this journey in 2017.
