What is Computer science?

  • A 21st Century Skill
  • a theory and practice that allows you to program a computer to do what you want it to
  • a tool that helps you tell a story or make something happen with technology
  • a discipline that emphasizes persistence in problem-solving — a skill that is applicable across disciplines, driving job growth and innovation across all sectors of the workforce
  • a skill that teaches students how to use computers to create, not just consume

Why Coding?

Coding empowers today’s digital world. It is how we interact with apps, devices, and everything digital around us. Digital technologies have disrupted almost every industry and we can only imagine what the world may look like when our kids grow up. Many traditional jobs no longer exist and new jobs such as Data Scientist is taking its place – actually many of the new age jobs are yet to be created. But one thing is for sure; they will all require STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Maths) skills.

Students are taught History, Geography, Physics, and Biology to comprehend the physical world. In the same way, every child must learn to code to comprehend and contribute to the digital future.

What is Google CS (Computer Science) First?

Google CS (Computer Science) First clubs aim to inspire students to create with technology. Google has developed materials to promote computer science to young students. Close to a million students globally have participated in the Google CS First coding clubs. Read more about Google CS First here.
